A Magic: The Gathering Prerelease is a casual event where everyone builds a deck from unopened packs instead of bringing a deck from home. This format is called Sealed Deck.

How it compares to The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth

The earlier LOTR set was a full-sized Modern-legal release that introduced mechanics like The Ring Tempts You, Food, and Amass Orcs, covering the entire War of the Ring.

The Hobbit is a more focused adventure:

• Smaller cast
• Emphasis on Bilbo’s journey
• Battle of Five Armies as the central gameplay theme
• New mechanics tailored to the book instead of reusing “The Ring Tempts You” as its main feature.
